Fort Charlotte

The Story

Perched high above Kingstown, Fort Charlotte has watched over St. Vincent for more than two centuries. Its unusual inward-facing cannons reveal where colonial authorities expected danger to come from: resistance from the Indigenous Kalinago, historically called Caribs, in the island's interior rather than an attack from the sea. This magnet preserves a striking detail of Vincentian history and the fort's enduring place above the capital.
